winter skincare rotation • my skincare routine consists of 3-7 products (+ sunscreen!) These day’s, I’m only focused on hydrating & occlusive elements (in the AM I use Shea Butter, PM: its Vaseline).

Unfortunately I still haven’t adjusted to this dry desert climate and I’m seeing the results of it more on my body — my eczema is back! 😩

If y’all have any tips on what I should buy (I’m thinking starting first with exchanging my shower valve). But I’m also into products.

brown skin girl 👏🏾 2019 was spent foundation free and honestly I loved it! When I’m not at the office, I wear tinted moisturizer, concealer, bronzer for eyeshadow & face, alternate between eyeliner or mascara, add highlighter and end with a gloss or lipstick that I bought in Detroit.

Sidenote: if you ever catch me IRL, I’m almost always wearing a Headwrap, its my favorite way to appreciate my culture and accessorize.

Beauty Bits 🧖🏾‍♀️ Cleansers I’ve been rotating all summer and taking into A/W.

Featured:

@sokoglam | * coconut cleansing pads, perfect for removing sunscreen + makeup. I use this sparingly because there are only 40 pads & cuz it Feels super luxurious for the skin.

@murad | * my first Western cleanser and I’m very impressed! I use this when my skin needs to feel refreshed & reinvigorated.

@kravebeauty | an antioxidant cleanser that doesn’t strip my skin of its natural barrier, I reach for this when my skins needs a bit of tlc.

@bemusedkorea | this buttery balm is my first reach for removing makeup & sunscreen, because it’s easy and it takes me forever to get through. Love that it melts into oil on contact with skin.

@sokoglam | * foams aren’t my go-to, so I was delightfully surprised that this whip cleanser was super gentle on the skin and didn’t leave it tight. Note: it has a ph. 6.5 & made of EWG Green level ingredients.

I was about 7 when I realized my name was unusual - we were on a field trip, the bus lady asked me my name, I responded - and she said “whatever happened to normal names like Alice + Mary?” My teen years & early adulthood my name was seen as raunchy & I’ll let you imagine the questions I was asked smh ... but it wasn’t until my 25th Birthday, that I began embracing my name and appreciating it’s uniqueness.

During my travels to Asia I realized the importance of a name: the constant requests to use a nickname or being given a western name because so often their told “your name is to difficult to pronounce” - I found those moments freakishly parallel to Black American culture where you’re teased if you’re name is too ethnic/ghetto — and I know for a fact it happens within other cultures/ethnic groups...

As I’ve traveled and learned from different cultures, I’ve learned the importance of controlling your narrative, explicitly stating who you are, and reveling in it. So yup, my name is Star, just like in the sky.
