Differences: When you find Houston but New Yorkers pronounce it How-ston...... isn’t that funny how we all say things differently even in the same country?? I list my fav southern sayings below that drive my hubs from Chicago crazy 1) “fixin” - southern definition is I am about to do something. Used in a southern sentence - I’m fixin to go to the store. Hubs retort - are you fixin the store? What are you fixing to fix??? 2) “put [it] up” - southern definition is that you are putting something in its place whether that is in a cabinet or drawer below or a shelf above. Used in a southern sentence - I’m going to put the dishes up when they are finished in the dishwasher. Hubs’ retort - you mean you are going to put the dishes “away” - up is only for above you! I’m not saying either are right or wrong...it’s #valentine’s week after all but I love how we are all different! Tell me your favorite #colloquialisms in the comments below!
