Well here she is...our new Antique Mantel! It took longer than expected to get it installed. Isn’t that always the case with #DIY projects?? We did trim about 2 inches off the bottom to close in a small gap. Other than that, she fit perfectly! I believe she was made for this space!! So what do you think?? Yep, that was today for me. Computer issues too. And to top it all off, when I picked up my grocery order, they didn’t have my favorite coffee in stock 😞
When I feel my anxiety rising and my joy slipping away...I have to step away. I gave myself permission to do nothing. I drank coffee and read about dahlias. I made dinner for my fam and took a walk. And you what, today turned out to be an amazing day!

Have you made a dried orange garland this year? It’s a beautiful DIY that makes your whole house smell amazing! I cut the slices about 1/4 inch thick and baked at 200 for 2-3 hours. I strung some bay leaves between the dried oranges and I love how the sun sparkles through. I plan on painting my paper mache’ gingerbread houses tomorrow and getting ready to share a little home tour with you on Friday!

Yesterday we had our family Thanksgiving...with lots of food, dirt bike riding, and talks around the fire. I didn’t pick up my phone, and enjoyed being unplugged for awhile. Although this year has been full of negative moments, we have so much to be thankful for.

I’m trying to stay focused on all the good and remember it’s important to find joy in the little things. Today we were tired...and needed a lazy day on the sofa. We binged watched shows and drank coffee. It felt good to relax. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving week! What are your Thanksgiving plans?

What a beautiful weekend! We finally finished our fire pit patio area, complete with string lights and cozy seating. Remember when this space held our swimming pool? We thought it would be perfect for a fire pit for the cooler months. So, we filled it in with pea gravel and put up posts for lighting. We will definitely be spending lots of Fall evenings right here roasting marshmallows!

It’s been a wonderful, relaxing weekend...aside from all the hurricane clean up. We were able to get our porch back to normal and the fallen tree cut up for fire wood.

As if 2020 hasn’t been enough of a train wreck...now Hurricane Laura is making her entrance 😞
My heart has been heavy for my southern Louisiana coastal neighbors. Being five hours North of the coast, we’re usually far enough inland we only get rain and winds. However, it’s projected to be a Category One by the time it makes it to us. So...today will be a “battening down the hatches” kind of day. Meaning, oh crap! We gotta bring everything inside!
So friends...I’m asking you to please join me in praying for protection and safety of all in the path of this storm. I am thankful to know WHO calms the storm ❤️ Your thoughts and prayers are so appreciated! Will keep you posted in IG stories.

Today my heart is heavy for all of you parents out there trying to make hard decisions about school for your kids this year. I want you to know I am sending prayers for everyone...many of us are navigating new waters. I want you to know I understand! I taught Kindergarten & 1st grade for 14 years. I also taught homeschool with my own kids for many years. It may be new and different and difficult. But hear me...you can do it. I pray many blessings over you all...for health, safety, patience and understanding.

Sometimes it takes years for a room to evolve into your vision. For example, our family room...our coziest room with three sofas for lounging. I’ve designed it using architectural pieces and vintage cabinets for character and interest. But y’all!! Our front door is just plain and boring. It’s an eye sore when I take a full room shot like this. So, hopefully in the near future...we can replace it with a new front door that will agree with our vision.
